Taylor Murray and the Sunshine Cart

Level 2 Self Contained Educator Taylor Murray and the Sunshine Cart

Taylor Murray received an Innovative Teaching Grant in the 2023/24 grant cycle. Her project was a simple one, create a Sunshine Cart for her students in her Level 2 Self Contained classroom at Ferry Farm Elementary School. Here are her words from last year, “Hi, I received the SEF grant this year. It was AMAZING. I am a level 2 self contained teacher and my students absolutely loved bringing our “sunshine cart” around to staff to give them treats and to collect their “fake money” we made. We had enough funding left over, we had a restaurant day at the end of the year inviting staff to participate. It was amazing and as many teachers said the highlight of their month each time we come around! The social skills our kids grew over doing this project for the year were huge! It has been great to see their progress.”

This project made such a difference for her kids, she wanted to re-supply and run it again for this school year. The problem was buying the supplies. She reached out to Stafford Education Foundation for additional funds to re-supply. SEF found the funds through their partnership with Stafford Schools and Wegmans.

Worthwhile projects come in many forms. If SEF can partner with educators and other community partners to fulfull these requests, we call that a win, win all around!
